Indianapolis Family Law Lawyers
At Schembs Law, our attorneys bring decades of combined experience to both family law and family-related criminal matters. Led by Robert Schembs, our team approaches every case with the preparation, strategy, and attention to detail of a seasoned trial lawyer. While family law cases in Indiana are typically decided by a judge rather than a jury, we prepare each matter as if it will be fully litigated – because that level of preparation leads to better outcomes.
Robert Schembs graduated with honors from Purdue University and earned his law degree from Indiana University. Before founding the firm, he worked with the Indiana Legislative Services Agency (LSA) and the Department of Child Services (DCS), giving him a deep understanding of Indiana law and the challenges faced by families and children. He also served as a deputy prosecutor in Marion County, where he gained extensive courtroom experience in both criminal and family-related matters. That experience continues to inform the work of our entire legal team.
As a firm, we understand the emotional weight that comes with family law cases. Whether you are navigating a divorce, custody dispute, or allegations of domestic violence, you deserve clear guidance and steady advocacy.
Our approach is not loud or combative – we are thoughtful, strategic, and firm when it matters most. Our focus is always on protecting our clients’ interests and helping them move forward with confidence.
Based in Indianapolis, we represent clients throughout Indiana.

Practicing Law With Rural Values and Big City Experience
Bob Schembs grew up on a farm in northern Indiana. His parents and their parents were all farmers, going back a hundred years to Germany and Holland. The values of honesty, hard work, family, and giving the best effort possible were a way of life then, and still are the standards today at Schembs Law.
Law was always Bob’s main interest, but early years in 4-H and FFA produced a love of exhibiting livestock that continues today, although he now raises sheep instead of pigs.
